LADIES WING SEMINAR "LEGAL EAGLE" On the 18th of July 2018, a large gathering of women, assembled at our centre in South Mumbai to receive legal counselling from our learned sister and eminent lawyer - Advocate Huriya Patel. What do we truly mean when we say we work for women empowerment? A big part of it is spreading awareness of women’s rights in our community which is an extremely pertinent topic. We invited Advocate Huriya Patel, who believes that educating underprivileged women on their basic rights is the need of the hour. In these uncertain times, information is the most powerful commodity we can give to them. In order to create awareness amongst all Sunni/Shia Muslims regarding applicability of Shariat Laws/Muslim Personal Laws in India in matters relating to testamentary and intestate succession, marriage/nikah, dissolution of marriage including types of talaq, khula, mubarat, talaq-e tafweez etc, maintenance, guardianship and adoption, estate and succession planning, gifts/hiba, will/wasiyat, trust/waqf, business contracts, shariah investments etc advocate Huriya Patel will be providing FREE legal advice and counselling to underprivileged women on a bi monthly basis. In this seminar she talked about how as parents we should focus more on our daughter's education as opposed to her marriage. How we shouldn’t spend frivolously on big weddings, instead we should use that sum to secure our daughter's futures. We must educate ourselves and our daughters on their legal rights in case of a divorce, domestic abuse, death etc which we hope never to have to encounter but Allah forbid if circumstances arise they must be able to endure with strength and in full knowledge of their rights.
